catching up, starting with easter

well, a while back there was easter.
we drove to spokane.
it sucked.
the drive, that is, spokane is okay.
we always stop in moses lake, and this day the beach was out and someone before us had built a castle and dug a deep hole.
so much fun.

until you fall in.

Try To Beat Our Bedhead

Before there were even three, Ben said "You're going to be one of those moms who doesnt even wash their kid's face before taking them out in public." Umm, yeah. Or brush their hair. Or make them take their p.j.s off. Who has time for those constant uphill battles? Not me.
So enjoy Abe while he is still cute people, because before you know it he will have joined the ranks of the messy but charming Leo and Finn. Those two should be famous for the bed head they sport on a regular basis. I honestly just forget to brush it out most days, and then when we get to school it's like I put on my public perspective eyes and think, 'oops! that's kind of a ratty head of hair!' But if you could see the antics associated with the appearance of a brush you might understand better. And I happen to think that the dandelion fluff quality of Finn's usual do is rather fun.
So anyways, I would love to have a bed head contest. I know some of you could really outshine even us in this category. I have photos to prove it. But post your own, it will be funny!

music to my ears

Today as Leo entered my room, guitar in hand he asked:
"Hey Mom, do you need some new music, the kind that's not a hundred years old and that no one has ever heard yet?"
Amen, he pretty much hit the nail on the head with that one. My most listened to music has been the same for the last 10 maybe even 20 years. Aretha, Grateful Dead Reckoning, Willie Nelson, Bob Marley, and the Beatles. Of course there are many others that I enjoy, but I am just not hip to the scene. The energy and attention that being hip would require is not accessible to me at the moment. And then even if I were sort of hip, to some that is not cool either, liking bands that are popular is like embracing fashion two seasons later. So whatever, I embrace my nerdiness, because I can have dance parties in my living room with members only invited. Leo and Finn think I am cool, and we all have equally cool dance moves. Which brings me to Finn's favorite band at the moment, Vampire Weekend. Did anyone see Vampire Weekend on SNL this weekend? I think they might be the boy band of my 30's, Dreamy! Hulu it and get past the fact that the lead singer strangely resembles a taller, talented version of Bubba Beck, and tell me what you think. Also, what is your favorite music at the moment?

The Babe

He's the shining star of the household. Something about having the baby around just makes everyone act ridiculously happy. He makes it a little easier to ignore 5 yr old grouchies, 3 yr old "Right Now!"'s, and the build up of never ending housework. We are busy entertaining our baby. He is rolling, grabbing, watching, bouncing, and one time he laughed really loud. There is a little competition going to see who can make him do it again first. He also got is sock off last week, it took about 20 minutes and stern concentration. And he would very much like to have a little bite of that sandwich, apple, or BBQed rib.

thank you sunshine!!!

gardeners in the making, we start 'em early.

thank you to the sunshine.
we have spent the past week OUTSIDE! and spring arrived just in the nick o time. we were beginning to treat each other rather rudely indoors. being able to picnic on the front porch in the sunshine is like medicine to our cabin fevered hearts.
thanks for the pink anemone janice! you inspired me to hound ben enough to get my white one moved to the appropriate place in the garden and i have some set aside for you! we also moved the hostas and ferns that have been suffering three summers of sunburn (ever since we chopped down the giant tree that shaded the "shade" garden), we also weeded, pruned, turned soil, AND planted peas and lettuces. it looks like a bunch of landscapers bombarded my yard! WOOT! WOOT! but it was really just my wonderful husband ben and the sunshine!!!
